In the group we look at a wide range of transport issues as they affect older people. We continually look at issues such as the cost of concessionary travel, the quality of bus services and travel safety.
We work closely with Nexus, the City Council, the Universities and with the local bus operators such as Stagecoach.
In addition, we are consulted on transport initiatives, both National and Regional. We also nominate representatives to the Tyne and Wear Older Peoples' Transport Forum.
We meet bi-monthly and any member of the Elders Council is welcome to join the Group.

Doorbells - Dreaming for the Future is a performance which raises questions about how and where we live in later life and how we might live more connected lives. The first performance was held in March and was very well received. The lively post-show discussion gave the audience the opportunity to explore their own views on later life.
Notes were taken of the discussions and analysed to start to draw out key issues for policy makers and practitioners.
This project is a partnership between Elders Council, Skimstone Arts and Northumbria University. We plan to deliver more performances in the future. See the full report under Housing in the Reports Section of the website.
A film version of the performance is available on http://skimstone.org.uk/film/ and here https://vimeo.com/289109651
